A co-worker once asked how to spell "antidote" (he was trying to spell "anecdote").
I asked a co-worker how he liked earning "remedial" (menial) wages.
I thought someone was "agrophopic"
"agoraphobic" comes from the Greek word "to gather"
(can have a fear of crowds)
my confusion was with the word "agro-" which means field
I heard the word "graphaphone" once and couldn't find it in the dictionary and even the spell checker didn't know it. (it appeared to be the flip-fop of "phonograph") Then I was shown a company that made the cylinder style gramophones under the title "Graphaphone." The owner refused to accept the idea that maybe "graphaphone" was a trademark like "Band-aid."
When I was in college, my sister noted that I was spelling "their" as "thier."
I remember watching Roy Clark correct Jack Klugman's use of the word "Jew's Harp" saying that it should be called a "Juice Harp." That was a long time ago, but come on Roy, look a nonword up before you correct someone on national TV.
